Arlington, Ohio - After having the conclusion of Friday's first round rained out, the Wayne State University golf team wrapped-up first round play on Saturday and completed the second round of the Findlay-Outback Steakhouse Invitational, placing eighth out of 16 teams with a two-round total of 638 (321-317).
Saginaw Valley State University took top honors with a score of 607 (309-298). Northwood placed second (309-302--611), followed closely by Grand Valley State (302-314--616) and the University of Findlay (311-307--618).
The Warriors were led individually by junior Joe Wilson (Trenton, Mich.) who tied-for-18th with a score of 157 (78-79). Senior Jacob Abramson (St. Clair, Mich.) tied-for-29th with identical rounds of 79 (158 total), while senior Chris Hill (Sarnia, Ont./St. Patrick's) followed closely in a tie-for-38th (81-79--160). Rounding out the scoring for WSU were freshman Don Kring (Williamsburg, Mich./Traverse City St. Francis) who finished tied-for-54th (83-80-- 163) and junior Lance Chamberlain (Allen Park, Mich.) who tied-for-73rd (83-85--168).
Wayne State also sent several golfers who competed as individuals. Senior Nathan Johnson (New Boston, Mich./Huron) tied-for-51st at 162 (80-82), while freshman Cory Vandivier (Belleville, Mich.) tied-for-66th (84-82-- 166). Redshirt freshman Mike Malandrucco (Warren, Mich./Sterling Heights) finished in a tie-for-87th (91-82--173), and redshirt senior Kevin Zeleji (Southgate, Mich./Anderson) finished in a tie-for-92nd (89-86-- 175).
The men's golf team continues its Ohio road trip on Sunday, April 9th and Monday, April 10th when they compete at the Ashland Invitational in Ashland, Ohio.
