ARLINGTON, Ohio - The Wayne State golf team finished in first place with a four-stroke lead at the Outback Steakhouse Invitational, hosted by the University of Findlay at Sycamore Springs Golf Course.
The Warriors matched their first round score of 300 on Saturday to top the 12-team field. Ferris State took second (304-300--604) followed by the host Oilers (299-310--609) in third and Northwood (307-303--610) in fourth.
Ryan Johnson (New Boston, Mich./Huron) and Brett Hudson (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./Orchard Lake St. Mary's) placed second and third with respective scores of 146 and 147, while Joe Juszczyk (Dearborn Heights, Mich./Divine Child) carded a 152 to tie for 11th. Michael Wouters (Sterling Hts., Mich./Henry Ford II) and Eric Johnson (Marquette, Mich.) each shot 156 to tie for 24th.
Individually, Peter Farner (Kalamazoo, Mich./Loy Norrix) also shot 156 and tie for 24th, Bryan Lynch (White Lake, Mich./Lakeland) and Jack Mitroka (Riverview, Mich.) both tied for 42nd with scores of 160, and John Francisco (Troy, Mich./Athens) tied for 67th at 166.
Wayne State will compete at the Ashland Invitational beginning Sunday morning.
