Canton, Mich. - The first day of the 2005-06 Wayne State University Motor City Invitational was completed on Sunday morning (Sept. 11) as nearly 25 percent of the golfers had to return bright and early to Pheasant Run as they were unable to complete their opening round due to darkness.
When the first round was completed, the Warriors were in third place with a 309. Grand Valley shot a 301 and was followed by Findlay (306), WSU, Ferris State (314), Mercyhurst (315), Northwood (316), Gannon (325) and Wayne State's "B" team (333).
Joe Wilson was tied for sixth after firing an opening round 75. Lance Chamberlain was tied for 10th one stroke back at 76.
Jacob Abramson and Nathan Johnson, along with three other golfers, were tied for 17th with an 18 hole total of 79. Chris Hill had an 87 for the "A" squad.
Kevin Zeleji led the "B" team with an 80 and was followed by Cory Vandivier (81), Cole Muncy (85), Don Kring (87) and Mike Malandrucco (88). Ryan Meharry competed as an individual.
The final round will be played on Sunday, Sept. 11.
