SOUTH HAVEN, Mich. - The Wayne State golf team finished in fifth place at the Great Lakes Regional at HawksHead, shooting 293 on Monday for a combined team score of 586.
Ashland won the event with a score of 574 as the Eagles took 16 strokes off their first round mark, shooting 279 on Monday. Grand Valley State was a stroke behind in second (293-282--575), followed by Indianapolis (290-288--578) and Findlay (288-294--582).
Ryan Johnson (New Boston, Mich./Huron) carded a 68 in the second round to tie for second place with a total score of 140, four under par. Bryan Lynch (White Lake, Mich./Lakeland) shot 145 (73-72) to tie for 11th and Joe Juszczyk (Dearborn Heights, Mich./Divine Child) tied for 51st with a score of 151 (74-77).
Brett Hudson (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./Orchard Lake St. Mary's) tied for 64th (74-79--153) and Eric Johnson (Marquette, Mich.) tied for 82nd (79-76--155).
Wayne State's next competition will be at the Bay Valley Intercollegiate beginning Friday, Sept. 28.
