BAY CITY, Mich. - The Wayne State golf team finished in second place (294-292--586) at the Bay Valley Intercollegiate, five strokes behind Grand Valley State (294-287--581), after the final round on Saturday.
The host Saginaw Valley State Cardinals took third place (298-290--588) followed by Northwood (296-297--593) and Oakland Community College (303-293--596).
Freshman Eric Johnson (Marquette, Mich.) led the Warriors with a total score of 146 (75-71) to finish in a tie for ninth. Ryan Johnson (New Boston, Mich./Huron) and Brett Hudson (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./Orchard Lake St. Mary's) each carded a 147 to tie for 12th.
Joe Juszczyk (Dearborn Heights, Mich./Divine Child) and Bryan Lynch (White Lake, Mich./Lakeland) tied for 25th with scores of 151.
Warriors playing individually included Michael Wouters (Sterling Hts., Mich./Henry Ford II) who tied for 16th (74-75--149), John Francisco (Troy, Mich./Athens) who shot 152 (76-76) to tie for 30th, Jack Mitroka (Riverview, Mich.) who tied for 43rd (76-81--157), and Peter Farner (Kalamazoo, Mich./Loy Norrix) who tied for 48th (77-81--158).
Wayne State will host the Motor City Invitational beginning tomorrow at Pheasant Run in Canton. Monday's round will be played at Edgewood in Commerce Township.
