MIDLAND, Mich. - The Wayne State men's golf team finished in ninth place at the Northwood Invitational on Friday. The 36-hole event took place at Currie Golf Course in Midland.
Their team score of 621 (310-311) was five strokes behind eighth-place Ashland (303-313--616). Northwood won the event with a score of 592 (293-299).
Highlighting the event for the Warriors was junior Joe Wilson (Trenton, Mich.), who led the team with a score of 147 (75-72), putting him in a tie for fifth. It is the second time this season Wilson has placed in the top 10, and the best placement for any Warrior golfer this season.
Senior Jacob Abramson (St. Clair, Mich.) finished in a tie for 20th place with a score of 154 (75-79). He is averaging 75.78 strokes per round this season, which leads the team.
Senior Chris Hill (Sarnia, Ont./St. Patrick's) placed 48th (77-83--160), and junior Lance Chamberlain (Allen Park, Mich.) and senior Nathan Johnson (New Boston, Mich./Huron) tied for 54th place with identical scores (83-80--163). Also in the 54th-place tie but not factoring into scoring was freshman Don Kring (Williamsburg, Mich./Traverse City St. Francis), who put up round scores of 82 and 81.
The Warriors will play in the Saginaw Valley State Invitational in Bay City on Saturday, Oct. 1.
