COMMERCE TOWNSHIP, Mich. - The Wayne State golf team won its Motor City Invitational with a combined score of 576, seven strokes under second-place Saginaw Valley State (296-287--583).

The Warriors posted a first-round score of 291 on Sunday at Pheasant Run in Canton and a 285 in the rain-delayed final round Monday at Edgewood.

Ashland finished third (302-290--592) with Owens Community College a stroke back in fourth (309-284--593). Tiffin rounded out the top five with a score of 600 (306-294).

Brett Hudson (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./Orchard Lake St. Mary's) shot 140 (71-69) to earn medalist honors, edging Northwood's Luigi Spadafora by a stroke. Ryan Johnson (New Boston, Mich./Huron) finished in a tie for sixth with a 143 (72-71).

Bryan Lynch (White Lake, Mich./Lakeland) tied for 12th (73-75--148), Joe Juszczyk (Dearborn Heights, Mich./Divine Child) shot 149 (75-74) to tie for 18th, and Eric Johnson's (Marquette, Mich.) 150 (79-71) put him in a tie for 23rd.

Participating individually, Michael Wouters (Sterling Hts., Mich./Henry Ford II) tied for 10th (76-71--147), Peter Farner (Kalamazoo, Mich./Loy Norrix) shot 148 (76-72) to tie for 12th, Jack Mitroka (Riverview, Mich.) carded a 149 (77-72) to tie for 18th, and John Francisco (Troy, Mich./Athens) tied for 30th (73-79--152).

Wayne State will play in the GLIAC Championship beginning Monday, Oct. 8 at Findlay Country Club.
