DETROIT, Mich. - The Wayne State men's hockey team (5-17-0) surrendered four unanswered goals in the third period in a 7-3 loss to Ferris State (6-14-3) on Saturday night at the Michigan State Fairgrounds Coliseum.

Mike Forgie (Scarborough, Ont./Stouffville Spirit) scored the lone goal of the first period at 9:38 to put the Warriors ahead, 1-0. Jeff Caister (Mississauga, Ont./Milton Icehawks) sent the puck up neutral ice to Jon Grabarek (Sterling Hts., Mich./Cedar Rapids RoughRiders), who found Forgie on the left wing. Forgie fired a wrist shot that glanced off the left pad of FSU goaltender Derek MacIntyre and into the net.

The Bulldogs would tie the game at 5:12 in the middle stanza on a power-play goal by Cody Chupp, who put a wrist shot from the left circle over the shoulder of Brett Bothwell (Red Deer, Alb./Yorkton Terriers).

Jason Baclig's (Leamington, Ont./Leamington Flyers) marker, a one-timer from a pass by Derek Bachynski (Belle River, Ont./Leamington Flyers), at 10:15 gave the Warriors another one-goal lead, which would be short-lived as the Bulldogs scored two straight to take a 3-2 lead.

Eric Vesely collected a rebound off a shot from Adam Miller to tie the game at 10:58, and Chupp scored an unassisted short-handed tally at the 14:15 mark. After blocking a shot attempt at the blue line by Matt Krug (Livonia, Mich./Texas Tornado), Chupp raced after the puck and created a breakaway opportunity that led to his second goal of the game.

With 40 seconds remaining in the period, Jared Katz (St. Clair Shores, Mich./Baystate Breakers) finished off a rebound to tie the score at three. Jason Bloomingburg (Canton, Mich./Texas Tornado), who initially shot it off the pads of MacIntyre, and Derek Punches (Manchester, Mich./Texas Tornado) earned assists.

The first of Ferris State's four goals in the third period was recorded by Aaron Lewicki on a four-on-three power play at the 9:01 mark. Lewicki sailed a wrist shot from the goal line to the right of Bothwell into the net for what proved to be the game-winner.

Adam Welch took a pass from Chupp, who was behind the goal, and scored to give the Bulldogs a two-goal lead at 12:56, and Chris Zarb netted his first career goal at 15:57 off a rebound to put the visitors ahead by three.

Jeremy Scherlinck capped off the game at 17:30 with an empty-net goal.

Shots on goal were 33-28 in favor of the Bulldogs, who also had two power-play goals in six chances. Wayne State did not score on its six power-play opportunities.

The Warriors will resume CHA play when they host the Robert Morris Colonials next weekend, Jan. 19-20.
