Plymouth, Mich. - The Wayne State University men's hockey team improved its overall record to 12-9-2 with a 4-1 College Hockey America victory over visiting Robert Morris University (4-14-3, 0-8-1 CHA) Saturday afternoon at the Compuware Sports Arena in Plymouth.
The Warriors started early as freshman center Adam Krug (Livonia, Mich./Sioux City Musketeers) scored just 1:59 into the contest off assists from freshman right wing Tylor Michel (Sudbury, Ont./Owen Sound Greys) and sophomore blueliner Matt Boldt (Burnsville, Minn./Billings Bulls).
The Colonials tied the contest on a power-play goal by Brett Hopfe at the 5:57 mark of the opening period.
The first period ended in a 1-1 draw with RMU holding an 11-10 advantage in shots on goal.
The second period was scoreless until the final minute when a Dan Iliakis' (Scarborough, Ont./Georgetown Raiders) shot bounced in off Mark Nebus (South Lyon, Mich./Texas Tornado) with just 36 seconds remaining in the stanza.
Nebus scored his second of the contest at the 6:19 mark of the third period as he banged in his own rebound. Freshman center Stavros Paskaris (Dearborn, Mich./Kewadin Indians) and junior left wing John May (Livonia, Mich./Springfield Junior Blues) assisted on Nebus' eighth of the campaign.
Jason Bloomingburg (Canton, Mich./Texas Tornado) completed the scoring with a power-play goal at the 8:52 mark. Bloomingburg's team-leading 15th goal of the season was assisted by Paskaris and junior blueliner Steve Kovalchik (Riverview, Mich./Omaha Lancers).
Paskaris, who also assisted on WSU's second goal, became the first Warrior skater to earn three assists in a game this season.
Wayne State junior goalie Matt Kelly (Hull, Mass./Topeka Scarecrows) made 23 saves including 11 in the middle period. Colonial netminder Christian Boucher stopped 24 Warrior shots. Each team scored one man-advantage marker, RMU in four chances and WSU in five opportunities.
