Bemidji, Minn. - The Wayne State University men's hockey team (12-13-2 overall, 5-6-2 CHA) was shutout for the first time in 34 games in a 2-0 College Hockey America loss at league-leading Bemidji State (15-9-1 overall, 10-3-0 CHA) Friday night.
The Warriors were outshot 37-13 in suffering their first shutout loss since a 5-0 defeat at Findlay on Feb. 21, 2004 (when current WSU netminder Will Hooper blanked Wayne State).
The Beavers led 1-0 after 20 minutes on a goal by Lou Garritan at the 3:29 mark although it appeared the play was offsides. BSU held a 12-8 advantage in shots on goal during the first period.
Bemidji State increased its lead to 2-0 just over three minutes into the middle stanza on a goal by Andrew Murray. The Beavers had 14-2 advantage in shots on goal in the second period.
Neither team was able to turn on the red light over the final 36 minutes.
Warrior junior netminder Matt Kelly (Hull, Mass./Topeka Scarecrows) made 35 saves in the WSU cage, while Beaver goalie Matt Climie turned aside 13 Wayne State shots to record his second shutout of the season.
Wayne State went zero-for-seven with the man-advantage, while Bemidji State was also scoreless on the power play.
WSU concludes its regular season series against Bemidji State with an 8:05 p.m. Eastern face-off on Saturday at the Glas Fieldhouse in Bemidji. Wayne State has six consecutive home games to conclude the regular season (Feb. 12-13 vs. Niagara, Feb. 26-27 vs. Air Force, and March 5-6 vs. Alabama-Huntsville).

WSU is now 6-8-2 on the road this year.
The Warriors are 5-10-1 when allowing the first goal.
Thirteen of Wayne State's 27 games have been decided by a goal or less with the Warriors recording a 6-5-2 mark in those contests. Twenty-one games have been decided by two goals or less with WSU compiling a 9-10-2 mark in those contests.
Wayne State is 5-7-1 when outshot by an opponent, an 0-9-1 when scoring two goals or less.
The shutout loss was the second against Bemidji State in the series history. Grady Hunt made 28 saves in 2-0 BSU win on Nov. 15, 2002, in Bemidji. WSU has one career shutout of the Beavers, 5-0 by David Guerrera on Feb. 23, 2002.
The Warriors have lost four consecutive games for the first time since a nine-game losing streak from Jan. 17, 2004, through Feb. 21, 2004.
