HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - The Wayne State men's hockey team (9-20-2, 5-10-0 CHA) snapped its three-game losing streak with a 4-2 victory at Alabama-Huntsville (4-18-3, 1-11-3 CHA) on Saturday afternoon at the Von Braun Center.

Senior forward Derek Bachynski (Belle River, Ont./Leamington Flyers) totaled three points, lighting the lamp twice for the Warriors for his second career multi-goal game and first since Jan. 21, 2006 against Robert Morris.

Stavros Paskaris (Dearborn, Mich./Kewadin Indians), who scored the game-winning goal, Jeff Caister (Mississauga, Ont./Milton Icehawks) and Ryan Adams (Deloraine, Man./Fargo-Moorhead Jets) each had two points.

The Chargers held a 1-0 lead through the opening period on freshman Joey Koudys' first collegiate goal at 5:18. It marked only the fifth time this season UAH has been in the lead after the first period.

Bachynski tied the score midway through the second period on a power play, firing a wrist shot from the bottom of the faceoff circle to the right of UAH netminder Cameron Talbot for his second goal in as many games. Paskaris and Caister assisted on the tally as they each extended their individual point streaks to three games.

With five minutes remaining in the period, Bachynski made another shot count to put the Warriors ahead, 2-1. Taking a feed in between the circles from Derek Punches (Manchester, Mich./Texas Tornado), Bachynski spun around and ripped a wrister past Talbot. Caister also earned his second assist of the game.

UAH's Kevin Morrison knotted the score at two apiece at 18:51, knocking in a rebound off a backhand shot from Kyle Goodchild, who was credited with a helper along with Brennan Barker.

Wayne State regained its one-goal lead at 8:18 in the third period, however, on a wrist shot from the slot by Paskaris, with assists from Bachynski and Adams.

An empty-net goal late in the contest by Adams solidified the victory for the Warriors, just their second in the last seven games at the Von Braun Center.

WSU goaltender Brett Bothwell (Red Deer,Alb./Yorkton Terriers) made 13 saves and held UAH scoreless in four power-play chances for his sixth win of the season.

Wayne State and Alabama-Huntsville will meet again Sunday afternoon at 2:05 p.m. CT.
