DETROIT, Mich. - In its final home game of the season on Saturday, the Wayne State men's hockey team (10-20-2, 6-10-2 CHA) skated to a 1-1 overtime tie with Bemidji State (14-13-5, 9-6-5 CHA) on Senior Night at the Michigan State Fairgrounds Coliseum.

Senior goaltender Will Hooper (Woodbridge, Ont./Wexford Raiders) saved 27 of BSU's 28 shots, including all 12 in the third period and five in overtime.

Jeff Caister's (Mississauga, Ont./Milton Icehawks) power-play goal, his second tally of the season, with 55 seconds remaining in the opening period gave Wayne State a 1-0 lead. Mark Nebus (South Lyon, Mich./Texas Tornado) and Derek Bachynski (Belle River, Ont./Leamington Flyers) worked the puck along the left boards before Bachynski found Caister open just inside the blue line. The freshman defenseman fired a slap shot that hit BSU goaltender Matt Climie and trickled over the line.

Bemidji State tied the score at 11:54 in the middle stanza, as Brandon Marino finished off a scramble in front of the net with his second goal of the season from Matt Pope and Joey Moggach.

Midway through the third, Matt Krug (Livonia, Mich./Texas Tornado) nearly gave Wayne State a 2-1 lead when his slap shot from the point glanced off the post. Two minutes later, BSU's Graham McManamin's shot from a similar position hit the post behind Hooper.

Climie finished with 17 saves for the Beavers, who went scoreless in four power-play opportunities.

Wayne State closes out the regular season next weekend, March 2-3, at Robert Morris.
