Huntsville, Ala. - The Wayne State University men's hockey squad (6-20-6 overall, 3-10-5 CHA) allowed five power-play goals in falling 6-1 at Alabama-Huntsville (18-10-2 overall, 12-5-1 CHA) Saturday in a 4:05 p.m. local start.

The Warriors trailed just 1-0 after 20 minutes as UAH's Brett McConnachie scored his sixth of the season with just 1:19 remaining in the frame.

Huntsville's Chris Martini made it a 2-0 contest only 69 seconds into the middle stanza.

McConnachie's second of the game came at the 5:49 mark and gave the hosts three power-play goals in the first 26 minutes of the match.

After nearly 10 minutes of scoreless action, WSU junior defenseman Adam Drescher (Belleville, Mich./Wexford Raiders) scored his first collegiate goal at the 15:02 mark. Senior John May (Livonia, Mich./Springfield Junior Blues) and junior Jason Bloomingburg (Canton, Mich./Texas Tornado) earned assists as the Warriors trailed just 3-1.

UAH's Matt Sweazey's tallied the Chargers lone even-strength goal of the game just 48 seconds after Drescher's lamp-lighter.

Wayne State allowed another late goal as McConnachie completed his hat trick, all on the power play, at 19:12.

Huntsville's Bruce Mulherin completed the scoring with his team-leading 14th goal at 7:26 of the third period.

WSU senior goalie Matt Kelly (Hull, Mass./Topeka Scarecrows) went the distance making 31 saves. UAH netminder Scott Munroe also made 31 saves in the contest.

The Warriors went zero-for-nine on the power play with the Chargers scoring five man-advantage markers in eight opportunities.

Wayne State returns home to the Michigan State Fairgrounds Coliseum to conclude the regular season. The United States Air Force Academy will play the Warriors this Friday and Saturday, March 3-4, at 7:05 p.m. each evening.
