Kearney, Neb. - The Wayne State University men's hockey team rallied from a two-goal deficit after 40 minutes to record a 6-4 win over Niagara in a College Hockey America semifinal contest at Tri-City Arena in Kearney, Nebraska.
The Warriors will play in Sunday's CHA Championship game against the winner of Saturday's second semifinal tilt featuring Alabama-Huntsville and Bemidji State. Face-off on March 16 is scheduled for 6:00 pm EST.
WSU senior defenseman Marc St. Jean (Orleans, Ont./Hawkesbury Hawks) led the way with his third two-goal game of the season and he added two assists for a four-point game.
The Warriors led 1-0 after 20 minutes as St. Jean tallied a five-on-three power-play goal at the 6:41 mark of the opening period.
The Purple Eagles responded with three power-play goals (in four opportunities) in the middle stanza. Barret Ehgoetz scored NU's first two man-advantage markers.
In the third period, Dustin Kingston (Spencerville, Ont./Brockville Braves) lit the lamp during a Warrior power play at the 5:09 mark to pull WSU within one at 3-2.
St. Jean's second of the contest tied the game at three at the 9:37 mark. NU regained the lead at the 12:33 mark on a Justin Cross goal.
Again the Warriors rallied as Jon Brink (Portage, Mich./West Michigan Warriors) banged in the rebound of a St. Jean shot with 4:33 left in the third.
Kingston netted the game-winner wtih 0:49 seconds left off a feed from Jason Durbin (Trenton, Mich./Danville Wings). Tyler Kindle (Portage, Mich./Bozeman Icedogs) started the scoring play.
Durbin added an empty-net marker 22 seconds later from St. Jean.
WSU senior goalie David Guerrera (St. Leonard, Que./Estevan Bruins) made 25 saves, while Niagara netminder Rob Bonk was credited 35 saves including 17 in the first period.
