DETROIT, Mich. - The Wayne State men's hockey team played its annual Green and White Game at the Michigan State Fairgrounds on Thursday evening. The Green squad emerged victorious, 8-4.
The game began with a flurry of goals, as the teams combined to light the lamp eight times in the first period. Jason Bloomingburg (Canton, Mich./Texas Tornado) and Matt Krug (Livonia, Mich./Texas Tornado) each had a goal for the Green team within the first 75 seconds, but Mike Forgie (Scarborough, Ont./Stouffville Spirit) soon got White on the board.
The two teams exchanged goals for the rest of the period, as Bloomingburg, Mark Cannon (River Rouge, Mich./Compuware Ambassadors), Tylor Michel (Sudbury, Ont./Owen Sound Saugeen Greys), Adam Smith (West Bloomfield, Mich./Springfield Spirit), and Stavros Paskaris (Dearborn, Mich./Kewadin Indians) each netted one for their respective sides. Through the first 20 minutes, Green held a 5-3 lead over White.
Paskaris scored his second straight 66 seconds into the middle period, and Bloomingburg got his hat trick to put Green ahead by four.
Derek Bachynski (Belle River, Ont./Leamington Flyers) scored Green's eighth goal in the third period, and Matt Boldt (Burnsville, Minn./Billings Bulls) closed out the scoring for the White squad.
