ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Facing off against CHA rival Robert Morris on neutral ice for the first time, the Wayne State men's hockey team suffered a 4-1 defeat in a non-conference game at the Nye Frontier Classic on Saturday afternoon. It marks just the third loss to RMU all-time and the first since Feb. 11, 2006.

Robert Morris scored twice in each of the first two periods, while a late goal in the third by Jon Grabarek (Sterling Hts., Mich./Cedar Rapids RoughRiders) prevented the shutout.

Ryan Cruthers put the Colonials on the board at 7:06 in the opening stanza, and the eventual game-winner came off the stick of Nathan Longpre at 13:34, giving RMU a 2-0 lead going into the first intermission.

Jason Towsley scored his second goal of the season at 15:34 in the middle period, and a power-play tally by David Boguslawski with 27 seconds remaining made it a 4-0 game.

Grabarek's power-play tally, assisted by Stavros Paskaris (Dearborn, Mich./Kewadin Indians) and Tyler Ruel (Port Alberni, Alb./Alberni Valley Bulldogs), came with just under three minutes to go in the game. Pasarkis, WSU's active points leader, increased his total to 60 points in his 100th career game.

Freshman goaltender Kyle Funkenhauser (Windsor, Ont./Surrey Eagles), making his first collegiate start, totaled 18 saves and held Robert Morris to one power-play goal in eight chances. Christian Boucher made 19 saves for the Colonials, playing nearly 51 minutes of shutout hockey before giving way to backup Wes Russell.

Wayne State's six-game road trip continues next weekend as the Warriors head to Ferris State to battle the Bulldogs in a two-game series.
