The Wayne State University men's ice hockey team (1-0-0 overall, 0-0-0 CHA) defeated Clarkson University 5-4 in its home opener, Saturday, October 16, 2004 at Compuware Arena in Plymouth, Mich.

Clarkson took the early lead just 27 seconds into the game when Mike Sullivan scored from Mac Faulkner and Chris Blight.

Their second goal came at 5:28 of the first period, when Nathan Beausoleil, assisted by Steve Zalewski and Brodie Ruthergle scored the power play goal.

Putting the Warriors on the board for the first time in the game with a power play goal was freshman forward Stavros Paskaris (Dearborn, Mich./Kewadin Indians) with assists from John May (Livonia, Mich./Springfield Junior Blues) and Ryan Wright (Brownstown, Mich./Texas Tornado).

Wayne State tied the game 2-2 when Jason Bloomingburg (Canton, Mich./Texas Tornado (Providence)) assisted by Tylor Michel (Sudbury, Ont./Owen Sound Saugeen Greys) scored.

Clarkson came back to make the score 3-2 when Brodie Ruthergle, assisted by Jay Latulippe scored the final goal of the first period.

At 7:46 of the second period, Mike Forgie (Scarborough, Ont./Stouffville Spirit) scored a power play goal on a pass from Steve Kovalchik (Riverview, Mich./Omaha Lancers) and Mark Bradshaw (Stony Plain, Alb./Humboldt Broncos).

Clarkson's Nick Dodge, assisted by Mike Sullivan and Jay Latulippe, scored the fourth and final goal for the Golden Knights.

The Warriors Jason Bloomingburg (Canton, Mich./Texas Tornado (Providence)) assisted by Greg Poupard (Jackson, Mich./Waterloo Black Hawks) and Nate Higgins (Calgary, Alb./Green Bay Gamblers) tied the score at 1:35 of the third period.

The game winning goal, giving him a hat trick, came at 15:15 of the third period when Jason Bloomingburg ((Canton, Mich./Texas Tornado (Providence)) assisted by Tylor Michel (Sudbury, Ont./Owen Sound Saugeen Greys) scored. Bloomingburg is the tenth individual in Wayne State History to record a hat trick.

Sophomore goalie Will Hooper (Woodbridge, Ont./Wexford Raiders (Findlay)) finished with 24 saves, while Kyle McNulty stopped 18 shots.

The Warriors will be on the road at Merrimack on Oct. 22-23, and will return home to play Canisius on October 30 and 31 at 7:05 pm and 2:05 pm at Compuware Arena in Plymouth, Mich.
