BIG RAPIDS, Mich. - The Wayne State men's hockey team (0-3-1) skated to a 2-2 overtime tie with Ferris State (1-2-1) on Saturday evening at Ewigleben Arena, snapping the Warriors' season-opening three-game losing skid.
Three Wayne State icers had two points apiece, as Mike Forgie (Scarborough, Ont./Stouffville Spirit) and Jeff Caister (Mississauga, Ont./Milton Icehawks) each lit the lamp and recorded an assist for the Warriors while Stavros Paskaris (Dearborn, Mich./Kewadin Indians) chipped in with a pair of helpers.
Cody Chupp, who also had two points in the game, got things started for Ferris State with a power-play goal in the opening period, giving the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead at the 15:11 mark.
Forgie's power-play tally, his second of the year, with 22 seconds remaining in the first period tied the score at 1-1. Wayne State has a power-play goal in all four games this season.
Caister netted a short-handed marker midway through the second period to give WSU a 2-1 advantage, but Ferris State knotted the score again on a power play at 4:41 in the third thanks to Blair Riley's second goal of the season.
WSU netminder Kyle Funkenhauser (Windsor, Ont./Surrey Eagles) saved 39 of FSU's 41 shots in his second collegiate start. Mitch O'Keefe totaled 22 saves for Ferris State.
Wayne State wraps up its six-game road swing next weekend at Robert Morris before hosting Lake Superior State for its first home series of the season Nov. 9-10.
