MOON TOWNSHIP, Mich. - The Wayne State hockey team (0-4-1, 0-1-0 CHA) opened the 2007-08 conference schedule at Robert Morris (3-2-0, 1-0-0 CHA) and fell to the Colonials, 3-1, at RMU's Island Sports Center on Friday night.
Mike Forgie (Scarborough, Ont./Stouffville Spirit), who has lit the lamp in all three series this season, scored WSU's only goal in the second period as the Warriors remained winless through five games of the 2007-08 campaign.
Kyle Burton broke the scoreless tie at 17:39 in the opening period with his first of the season, and tallies by Jake Sparks and Jason Towsley in the second stanza gave Robert Morris a 3-0 lead.
Towsley's goal marked the only power-play goal of the night for Robert Morris, while Wayne State, who previously had scored a power-play goal in all four games, was 0-for-5 with a man advantage.
Forgie ended RMU's shutout bid with his third goal of the season at 13:52 of the second period, assisted by Jeremy Tejchma (Muskegon, Mich./Bridgewater Bandits) and Tylor Michel (Sudbury, Ont./Owen Sound Saugeen Greys).
Shots were nearly even, with Robert Morris edging Wayne State, 26-23. Kyle Funkenhauser (Windsor, Ont./Surrey Eagles) made 23 saves for the Warriors, as his counterpart Christian Boucher totaled 22 saves for the Colonials.
The Warriors and Colonials will battle again Saturday night with a 7:35 p.m. faceoff. Fans can listen to Robert Morris' audio broadcast via Yahoo! Sports.
