Potsdam, N.Y. - The Wayne State University men's hockey team (0-3-0 overall) continued its season-opening six-game road trip with a 5-2 setback at Clarkson University's (3-2-0 overall) Cheel Arena Friday night.

The Warriors started strong against the Golden Knights as junior right wing Mark Nebus (South Lyon, Mich./Texas Tornado) scored 4:51 into the contests off assists from defensemen Greg Poupard (Jackson, Mich./Waterloo Black Hawks) and Dan Iliakis (Scarborough, Ont./Georgetown Raiders). Nebus' first goal of the season resulted in the first assists of the campaign for Poupard and Iliakis.

Clarkson tied the game at the 12:48 mark on a man-advantage goal by Shea Guthrie and took the lead with 3:42 remaining in the opening stanza on a power-play goal by Shawn Weller.

WSU junior netminder Will Hooper (Woodbridge, Ont./Wexford Raiders) made 12 saves in the first period as Wayne State was outshot 14-8 in the frame.

The Golden Knights increased their lead to 3-1 just 23 seconds into the middle stanza as David Cayer scored CU's first even-strength marker of the game.

The Warriors pulled within a goal at the 6:19 mark as sophomore right wing Derek Bachynski (Belle River, Ont./Leamington Flyers) scored his first of the season off assists from junior right wing Mark Cannon (River Rouge, Mich./Compuware) and senior blueliner Steve Kovalchik (Riverview, Mich./Omaha Lancers). Bachynski's fifth career lamp-lighter was also the first assists of the season for Cannon and Kovalchik.

Clarkson regained its two-goal advantage just 78 seconds later as Cayer scored his second of the contest.

Weller completed the scoring with the lone third period goal.

Hooper finished with 20 saves, while Clarkson goalie David Leggio was credited with 25 saves. The Warriors were zero-for-nine with the man-advantage, while the Golden Knights scored two power-play goals in eight opportunities.
