PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Wayne State men's hockey team (2-6-0) snapped its three-game losing streak with a 5-3 victory Friday night in the Warriors' first-ever trip to Brown University (0-2-2).

After being held scoreless for over eight straight periods heading into Friday's game, Wayne State posted five goals, its second-highest total of the season.

The two teams combined for five markers in a busy first period, with Wayne State holding a slim 3-2 lead after 20 minutes of play.

Freshman Jared Katz (St. Clair Shores, Mich./Baystate Breakers) put the Warriors on the board at 3:22 with his second goal of the season, on an assist from co-captain Jason Bloomingburg (Canton, Mich./Texas Tornado), but the host Bears responded 67 seconds later as Jeff Prough netted his first of two goals in the period.

Dan Iliakis (Scarborough, Ont./Georgetown Raiders) gave Wayne State a 2-1 lead at the 8:00 mark with his first of the year, and Bloomingburg scored a power-play tally from Jon Grabarek (Sterling Hts., Mich./Cedar Rapids RoughRiders) to put the Warriors ahead by a pair at 12:46.

Prough narrowed the gap to one on a power play at 15:54 with his second of the period and third of the season.

Senior Jason Baclig (Leamington, Ont./Leamington Flyers) got the eventual game-winner with a man advantage just under two minutes into the middle stanza, with an assist from Mark Nebus (South Lyon, Mich./Texas Tornado). Wayne State again held a two-goal lead as Brown netminder Mark Sibbald was pulled in favor of freshman Dan Rosen, making his collegiate debut.

Antonin Roux's score at 16:11 made it a 4-3 game, but neither Rosen nor WSU goaltender Brett Bothwell (Red Deer, Alb./Yorkton Terriers) would allow another goal for the rest of the night.

Wayne State fended off a Brown power play, two Bear shots that hit the pipe, and an extra Brown attacker within the final two minutes.

Mike Forgie (Scarborough, Ont./Stouffville Spirit) put the game away on a short-handed, empty-net goal with 32 seconds remaining.

Bothwell made 36 saves, including 15 in the final period, for his second win of the season. Rosen played nearly 37 minutes of shutout hockey, making 17 saves.

The Warriors and Bears will meet again tomorrow afternoon (Nov. 11) at 2:00 p.m.
