PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Wayne State men's hockey team (2-7-0) surrendered three power-play goals in the second period of a 7-3 loss at Brown on Saturday afternoon, splitting the weekend series at Meehan Auditorium.
The Bears, who never trailed in the game, took a 1-0 lead just 62 seconds into the contest on Brian McNary's first goal of the season.
Antonin Roux made it 2-0 with his third of the year at the 5:15 mark, and Brown went into the locker room with a two-goal lead and a 17-8 advantage in shots on goal after the first 20 minutes of play.
A power-play marker from Sean Hurley gave the Bears a three-goal lead at 4:51 in the second period before Wayne State freshman Ryan Bernardi (Etobicoke, Ont./Milton Icehawks) got the Warriors on the board with his first collegiate goal at the 10:35 mark, assisted by co-captains Mike Forgie (Scarborough, Ont./Stouffville Spirit) and Jason Bloomingburg (Canton, Mich./Texas Tornado).
Power-play goals from Matt Vokes and Jeff Prough, respectively, put the home team ahead, 5-1, after two periods.
Sean Muncy netted his first collegiate goal 26 seconds into the final period, and scored again just 2:10 later to stretch the Bears' lead to 7-1.
Jason Baclig (Leamington, Ont./Leamington Flyers) and Bernardi each scored on power plays in the third, but the Warriors could not close the gap any further despite outshooting the Bears, 16-6, in the final 20 minutes.
Freshman Dan Rosen made 35 saves for the win in his first collegiate start, while WSU netminder Will Hooper (Woodbridge, Ont./Wexford Raiders) saved 26 Brown shots, including 15 in the opening period.
Brown converted on three of its 10 power plays in the game, with Wayne State scoring two goals on nine power plays.
The Warriors travel to Lake Superior State to take on the Lakers next weekend, Nov. 17-18.
