ITHACA, N.Y. - The Wayne State men's hockey team suffered a 2-0 defeat at 12th-ranked Cornell on Sunday afternoon, as the Big Red salvaged a split out of the weekend series.
Wayne State committed 12 penalties, but held Cornell to just one power-play goal in 10 opportunities. The Warriors, meanwhile, went scoreless on seven chances.
The scoring was confined to the second period, with Raymond Sawada netting the game-winner at the 5:54 mark, assisted by Mark McCutcheon and Topher Scott. McCutcheon added a power-play tally at 9:26 from Jared Seminoff and Sawada to seal the victory.
Wayne State goaltender Will Hooper (Woodbridge, Ont./Wexford Raiders) made 26 saves in the losing effort, while his Cornell counterpart Troy Davenport finished with 21 saves in his first collegiate shutout.
