DETROIT, Mich. - The Wayne State men's hockey team (3-8-2) had its three-game unbeaten streak snapped with a 3-1 loss to Bowling Green State (7-4-0) Friday night at the Michigan State Fairgrounds Coliseum.

Special teams were the key to the game, as BGSU scored all three of its goals with a man advantage, while WSU was 0-for-6 on the power play.

Jon Grabarek (Sterling Hts., Mich./Cedar Rapids RoughRiders) scored the lone goal for the Warriors with assists from Tyler Ruel (Port Alberni, B.C./Alberni Valley Bulldogs) and Jeff Caister (Mississauga, Ont./Milton Icehawks), who has a point in each of the last four games and six of the last seven.

A low wrist shot from the point by Mike Nesdill opened the scoring at 5:03 of the first period. Jacob Cepis followed it up with the game-winner at 12:50, firing a shot from the right circle past goaltender Kyle Funkenhauser (Windsor, Ont./Surrey Eagles), who totaled 25 saves in the game.

Grabarek's marker at 9:01 of the second period gave the Warriors life, but when a tally by Caister was called back at 17:02 due to a WSU penalty for goaltender interference, the momentum swung in favor of the Falcons. Derek Whitmore came away from a scramble in front of the net with his 13th goal of the season just 1:42 later.

Despite outshooting the Falcons, 10-2, in the third period and playing with an extra attacker for the final two minutes, the Warriors were unable to close the gap.

BGSU's Jimmy Spratt made 21 saves including 10 in the final stanza.

These two teams will meet again Saturday night at the BGSU Ice Arena for a 7:05 p.m. faceoff.
