Springfield, Mass. - The Wayne State University men's hockey team (4-8-2) ended a four-game losing streak with a 3-2 victory at American International College (3-12-1) Saturday evening. WSU is now 2-4-0 halfway through its 12-game road trip.

Freshman forward Mark Cannon (River Rouge, Mich./Compuware Ambassadors) started the scoring 8:18 into the contest as he lit the lamp for the fourth consecutive game. Rookies Matt Boldt (Burnsville, Minn./Billings Bulls), who earned his first collegiate point on the goal, and Nicholas Staneckyj (Garson, Ont./Rayside Balfour Sabrecats) garnered the assists.

The host Yellow Jackets tied the score just 25 seconds later as leading scorer Guillaume Caron netted his seventh of the campaign.

WSU took a 2-1 8:18 into the middle stanza as freshman Jason Baclig (Leamington, Ont./Leamington Flyers) scored off assists from classmates Nate Higgins (Calgary, Alb./Green Bay Gamblers) and Mark Nebus (South Lyon, Mich./Texas Tornado).

AIC's Caron tied the score once again with his second of the contest at the 13:31 mark of the second period.

WSU freshman defenseman Dan Iliakis (Scarborough, Ont./Georgetown Raiders) scored his first collegiate goal with 2:35 left in the third period to snap a 2-2 tie. Junior center Billy Collins (Enderby, B.C./Prince George Spruce Kings) and junior forward John Grubb (Burlington, N.D./Waterloo Black Hawks) assisted on the game-winner.

Warrior netminder Matt Kelly (Hull, Mass./Topeka Scarecrows) made 21 saves, while AIC goalie Chad Davis turned aside 32 WSU shots.

Wayne State will break for exams and continue its road trip by participating in the 2003 Subway Classic hosted by the University of North Dakota. The Warriors will skate against Brown University in the first game on Saturday, December 27 in Grand Forks.
