Wayne State University sophomore goaltender Will Hooper (Woodbridge, Ont./Wexford Raiders) has been selected College Hockey America Defensive Player of the Week for his performance last Saturday at league-leading Alabama-Huntsville.
Hooper made a career-high 50 saves in Saturday's 3-3 (OT) tie in Huntsville. His previous high of 47 stops came on Jan. 23, 2004, against the Ferris State Bulldogs, while he played for the University of Findlay.
His 22 saves in the second period tied the school record for saves in a period originally set by Marc Carlson on Oct. 23, 1999, versus Findlay and equaled by David Guerrera on Oct. 19, 2001, at Wisconsin.
Hooper made 10 saves in a scoreless first period, 22 stops in the second period as WSU earned a 2-1 lead, 15 saves in the third period to send the game into overtime and three saves in the extra session to preserve the draw.
Wayne State continues its road trip with a two-game CHA series at Niagara University this Friday and Saturday.
