GAME STORYLINES
The Wayne State University men's hockey team (4-16-0, 1-7-0 CHA) returns home to the Michigan State Fairgrounds Coliseum to take on CCHA-member Ferris State (5-13-3, 3-10-2 CCHA) for a weekend series.
Both games are scheduled for 7:05 p.m. ET, with Friday's contest being shown live on Comcast Detroit and via tape delay on Comcast Local.
Wayne State was swept, 3-2 and 7-5, in a series at Bemidji State this past weekend. The Beavers are unbeaten (9-0-1) in their last 10 games against the Warriors.
Ferris State snapped a seven-game winless streak with a 5-3 victory at Northern Michigan on Saturday. The Bulldogs were defeated, 4-1, by the Wildcats the previous night.
BEHIND THE BENCH
Bill Wilkinson is in his eighth season as Wayne State's head coach and his 25th year as a collegiate head coach. Wilkinson's overall record stands at 418-439-77, while his mark at WSU is 105-138-24.
Ferris State's Bob Daniels has spent his entire 15-year head coaching career behind the Bulldogs' bench, posting a record of 230-277-51.
THROUGHOUT THE YEARS
FSU leads the all-time series, 3-1-0, although these two teams have not met since the 2002-03 season. The Bulldogs swept a weekend set in Detroit (Oct. 12-13, 2001) and split a series in Big Rapids (Nov. 8-9, 2002).
IN THE POLLS
WSU was selected to finish fifth in the CHA preseason coaches poll.
Ferris State was tabbed for ninth in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association preseason coaches poll and seventh in the media poll.
ON THIS DATE
Wayne State has played twice on Jan. 12, scoring a team-record nine goals in a 9-6 win at Niagara in 2001, and falling, 5-3, against Air Force the following season.
On Jan. 13, WSU won at Niagara, 4-3, in 2001 and skated to a 3-3 overtime tie at Bemidji State last season.
SCOUTING FERRIS STATE
Ferris State's 5-3 win last Saturday at Northern Michigan was just the second win for the Bulldogs in their last 16 games. They went 2-11-3 during that span and are currently in 11th place in the CCHA.
Senior forward Zac Pearson leads the team with 15 points (5-10) and four power-play goals this season.
Philadelphia Flyers draftee Chris Zarb has a team-high 11 assists, and sophomore Brendan Connolly, who scored twice last Saturday, is tops on the squad with six goals.
Mark Bomersback, Ferris State's top returning points leader from a year ago (16-16--32) who suffered a broken leg in the season opener against Union on Oct. 6, returned to action on Dec. 29 against Massachusetts. He has two assists over the last four games.
Sophomore goaltender Mitch O'Keefe has seen most of the playing time between the pipes for the Bulldogs, posting a 3.00 goals-against average and a .886 save percentage. Junior Derek MacIntyre made his second start of the season on Saturday, earning his first victory of the year.
