Two Wayne State men's hockey players earned awards this week from College Hockey America based on their individual performances in the Warriors' weekend series against Robert Morris. Junior forward Tylor Michel (Sudbury, Ont./ Owen Sound Saugeen Greys) was named CHA Offensive Player of the Week, and freshman goaltender Brett Bothwell (Red Deer, Alb./Yorkton Terriers) earned Rookie of the Week accolades.

Michel recorded his first career hat trick in Friday's 7-4 win over the Colonials. Michel scored all three goals in the third period in a record-setting span of 7:57, far surpassing the previous school mark of 21:06, set by Jason Durbin in 2001. His first goal proved to be the game-winner, as he added another even-strength tally as well as a short-handed empty-net goal.

Michel also played tough on the defensive side of the puck, blocking multiple shots and helping hold the Colonials to a lone power-play goal in eight opportunities on the weekend. He had a team-high 10 shots on goal and was +2 in the series.

Brett Bothwell

Bothwell made 50 saves, 25 in each of the two victories over RMU. Twenty-two of his 50 saves came in the third period, as the freshman surrendered just one power-play goal in eight chances, posted a goals-against average of 2.50 and a save percentage of .909 in the series.

Wayne State will continue conference play as the Warriors travel to Niagara to take on the Purple Eagles this weekend, Jan. 26-27. Both games will be broadcast on WDTK 1400 AM and online at www.wdtkam.com.
