Feb. 12, 2007
Wayne State freshman Jared Katz (St. Clair Shores, Mich./Baystate Breakers) was named the College Hockey America Rookie of the Week, his third award this season, for his performance last weekend against league rival Alabama-Huntsville.
Katz assisted on WSU's lone marker Friday against UAH, and added a goal and a helper in Saturday's 4-1 win over the Chargers. He assisted on the first goal of the game in the second period on Saturday, while his power-play tally late in the stanza gave the Warriors a much-needed insurance goal to help end a three-game skid. He was +1 for the series.
Katz has a point in nine of his last 11 games and leads all CHA rookies with eight goals on the season.
Wayne State will host its second of three straight CHA series at the Michigan State Fairgrounds Coliseum against No. 17 Niagara this weekend, Feb. 16-17. Tickets are available by calling 1-866-WSU-TIKS.
