Two Wayne State men's hockey players earned recognition from College Hockey America for their performances last weekend against Bemidji State. Senior goaltender Will Hooper (Woodbridge, Ont./Wexford Raiders) was named Defensive Player of the Week, and defenseman Jeff Caister (Mississauga, Ont./Milton Icehawks) garnered Rookie of the Week honors.

Starting in goal on Senior Night, Hooper made 27 saves, including all 12 in the third period and five in overtime, to preserve a 1-1 tie with the Beavers on Saturday. He held Bemidji State scoreless on four power-play opportunities and surrendered just one goal for the third straight start. He is unbeaten (2-0-1) and has a .955 save percentage in that span.

Caister recorded a point in both games of the series against BSU. He assisted on Mark Nebus' game-winning power-play goal late in the first period of Friday's 3-1 victory and scored WSU's lone goal, also on the power-play, on Saturday. He had five shots on goal and was even for the series.

Wayne State closes out the regular season at Robert Morris this weekend, March 2-3.
