Wayne State University junior goalie Matt Kelly (Hull, Mass./Topeka Scarecrows) and freshman right wing Tylor Michel (Sudbury, Ont./Owen Sound Greys) have earned College Hockey America weekly honors.
Kelly recorded his second career shutout by stopping all 33 Alabama-Huntsville shots in Saturday's 4-0 WSU victory. It was Kelly's first whitewash in more than two years (Dec. 28, 2002), a 7-0 win over Princeton.
Michel had four points on two goals and two assists in the WSU split with the Chargers. His power-play goal on Saturday gave Wayne State a 2-0 advantage. Michel had a career-high three points in Sunday's contest. He scored the game's first goal on a power play and assisted on WSU's second and fourth goals.
Wayne State begins CHA tournament play with an 8:35 p.m. (Eastern) quarterfinal match against the Air Force Academy on Friday.
