Wayne State senior forward Nate Higgins (Calgary, Alb./Green Bay Gamblers) was honored as the team's recipient of the CHA Easton Hockey Three-Star Award at the College Hockey America postseason banquet on Thursday night in Des Moines, Iowa.
During the league schedule, points were awarded to players based on being named as one of the three stars of the game. Five points went to the first star, three to the second, and one to the third.
Higgins totaled 11 points after being named the first star twice and the third star once in league play. Niagara's Ted Cook, who collected 23 points, won the Easton Player of the Year Award. Also earning Easton awards for their respective schools were Alabama-Huntsville's Grant Selinger (20), Bemidji State's Rob Sirianni (16), and Robert Morris' Doug Conley (16).
Higgins leads the Warriors with 13 goals and 24 points this season. He is seventh in the CHA in goal scoring and tied-for-second in league goals (11).
Wayne State and Alabama-Huntsville will square off in the CHA quarterfinal game on Friday at 8:00 p.m. ET, with top-seeded Niagara awaiting the winner for a semifinal contest on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. ET.
