Wayne State University senior goaltender David Guerrera (St. Leonard, Que./Estevan Bruins) has been selected as the College Hockey America Defensive Player of the Week announced today by the league office.
Guerrera, a 6-1, 185-pound netminder was honored as the league's defensive player of the week for the third time this season and seventh time in WSU's three-year membership in the CHA.
He posted back-to-back wins over Findlay (3-0, 6-3) in a home-and-home series this past weekend. David made 35 saves in Friday's shutout and stopped 26 shots in Saturday's road win. Two of the three goals he allowed in the series finale were on power plays.
Guerrera finished the regular season with 11-7-2 league record (15-14-2 overall), a 2.54 goals-against average (3.07 overall), and a .918 save percentage (.902 overall).
Wayne State heads into the CHA tournament as the No. 3 seed and will skate against the No. 6 seeded Air Force Falcons at 4 p.m. EST on Friday, March 14. The 2003 CHA Tournament is being held at the Tri-City Arena in Kearney, Neb.
