Kearney, Neb. - Wayne State University junior center Billy Collins (Enderby, B.C./Prince George Spruce Kings) and sophomore goaltender Matt Kelly (Hull, Mass./Topeka Scarecrows) were named to the 2004 College Hockey America All-Tournament team as voted on by members of the media attending the championship.
Collins recorded his first collegiate hat trick in Friday's 5-3 CHA quarterfinal win over Alabama-Huntsville, including the game-winner in the third period. His first goal put WSU up 2-1 early in the second period. His second tally snapped a 3-3 tie 6:14 into the third period, while his empty-net marker sealed the victory.
Kelly made 40 saves in the triumph over the Chargers. He made 14 saves in the opening period to keep the score tied at one. The next stanza he again made 14 saves as the teams were tied at three after 40 minutes. He stopped all 12 UAH shots in the decisive third period.
In the CHA semifinal contest against the 2004 CHA tournament champion Niagara Purple Eagles, Kelly turned aside 13 of NU's 14 shots in the opening period with each team scoring once. He turned aside all seven NU shots in the middle stanza, and stopped 12 shots in the third period with the game-winning goal coming as a centering pass deflected in off a Warrior skate.
For the tournament, Kelly made 72 saves on 77 shots.
