Eight Wayne State University men's hockey players were named to the College Hockey America All-Academic team announced by the league office. Six were repeat honorees from last year plus Marc Carlson, who was honored in 2000-01.
To earn CHA All-Academic team honors, student-athletes must meet the following criteria: 1) have completed one year of residency at their present institution prior to the current academic year; 2) have a grade-point average of at least 3.00 (4.00 scale) for the previous two semesters, or have an overall GPA of at least 3.00 for all terms at their present institution; 3) have competed in at least 50 percent of their institution's varsity games during the current season (excluding goaltenders).
Wayne State's honorees included senior forwards Jon Brink, Dustin Kingston, Brent Renfrew and Maxim Starchenko, senior defenseman Tyler Kindle, senior goalie David Guerrera, redshirt junior goalie Marc Carlson, and sophomore forward John Grubb.
Brink, Guerrera, Kindle, Kingston, Renfrew and Starchenko are now three-time honorees, while Carlson is a two-time selection.
