Wayne State University freshman right wing Derek MacKay (Sault Ste. Marie, Ont./Soo Thunderbirds) was the College Hockey America's nominee for the Ice Hockey Collegiate Commissioners' Association National Rookie of the Month for March.

This marked the third consecutive month that MacKay was the league's rookie nominee. The March Rookie of the Month was Minnesota forward Thomas Vanek, while New Hampshire goalie Mike Ayers as the National College Player of the Month.
