DETROIT - Wayne State University Men's Hockey Coach Bill Wilkinson announced the signing of Dan Iliakis (5-11, 190) to a National Letter of Intent, bringing the total number of signees to eight for the 2003-04 season.
"I think Dan brings a great deal of maturity to our young team," said Wilkinson. "He has been a perennial all-star in the provincial league. I think he will be a skilled-type of defenseman who can handle special teams. He will be a very positive influence on the squad."
Iliakis, a native of Scarborough, Ontario, was selected as the Best Defenseman in the Western Conference and participated in the Provincial All-Star game. He played in 49 games during the regular season with the Georgetown Raiders and recorded 38 points on 13 goals and 25 assists with 41 penalty minutes. Iliakis helped the Raiders to a third-place finish with a 37-7-3-2 record. During the 2000-01 campaign, he was voted the most improved player and helped his team to a league championship. He graduated in 2001 from Wexford Collegiate Institute. The son of Peter and Ritua, Dan was born on April 25, 1982.
Wayne State recently completed its fourth season with the school's first NCAA tournament appearance. The Warriors won their third consecutive College Hockey America (CHA) tournament championship.
WSU has compiled a 72-58-11 record under the guidance of head coach Bill Wilkinson, who ranks in the top 30 all-time of victories by an NCAA hockey coach.
