Former WSU Goaltender Signs CHL Contract

 
 

 
Former Warrior netminder David Guerrera is now with the Rocky Mountain Rage.

Former Wayne State University goaltender David Guerrera has signed a contract with the Rocky Mountain Rage of the Central Hockey League.

After playing junior hockey for the Estevan Bruins, the St. Leonard, Quebec, native came to WSU and was selected as the team's Co-Most Valuable Player during his freshman season of 1999-2000.

The following year he was selected CHA Tournament MVP after stopping 72 of 75 shots (.960 saves pct.) in wins over Niagara (3-2 OT) and Alabama-Huntsville (4-1). He was also named to the CHA All-Academic team.

As a junior, he earned CHA Player of the Year honors after leading the CHA (College Hockey America) in goals-against average (2.34), saves percentage (.923) and winning percentage (.816). A First Team All-CHA selection, he was also selected as WSU's Student-Athlete of the Year.

During the 2002-03 campaign, Guerrera was selected to the CHA All-Tournament team for the second time in three years.

He began his professional career with the Laredo Bucks where he earned the Central Hockey League's 2003-04 Rookie of the Year award after compiling a 26-4-5 record, while also being named the CHL's Playoff Most Valuable Player. He had an 8-2-0 mark in 10 post-season games with a 1.65 gaa and a .934 saves percentage.

This past year, he played in Norway for the IF Frisk Asker Tigers. He recorded a 2.89 gaa and an .897 saves percentage during 23 regular season games for the Tigers.
