2007-08:NCAA CHAMPIONSHIP: Earned six All-America accolades, including four First Team honors ... led the first-place 200 medley relay (1:30.49), the first national champion relay in school history ... finished sixth in the 100 backstroke (49.88), .02 seconds off the pace of Sean Smith's school record-setting time ... broke the school record in the 50 free twice - once in the preliminary round, when he qualified 16th (20.79) and again in the finals, finishing 13th (20.67) ... led the fourth-place 400 medley relay (3:21.62) and tied the school record for the 100 backstroke on the preliminary relay (50.44), which he later broke with a prelim time of 50.03 in the individual 100 back event ... swam in the 400 free relay, which placed fourth and broke the school record in both the prelims (3:02.65) and finals (3:01.52) ... was also on the 200 free relay, which qualified 10th (1:23.26) and finished 11th (1:23.23), setting a WSU record in both rounds ... placed 23rd in the preliminary 100 free (46.09). GLIAC CHAMPIONSHIP: Finished third in the 100 backstroke (51.27) and fifth in the 50 free (21.47) and 100 free (47.02) ... anchored the first-place 200 free relay (1:23.80) and third-place 400 free relay (3:05.98) ... led the second-place 200 medley relay (1:32.54). 2006-07: NCAA CHAMPIONSHIP: Became a five-time All-American ... anchored three first-team relays - the 200 freestyle relay (1:24.07 - 8th), 400 medley relay (3:19.86 - 3rd), and 400 freestyle relay (3:04.59 - 6th) ... the latter two relays broke school records ... earned Honorable Mention distinctions by finishing ninth in the 100 backstroke (50.58) and 16th in the 100 freestyle (47.12) ... placed 21st in the preliminary round of the 50 free (21.18). GLIAC CHAMPIONSHIP: Finished fourth in the 50 free (21.73) and 100 back (52.21) ... took third in the 100 free (47.13) ... anchored the first-place 400 medley relay (3:24.08), which set a GLIAC and WSU record, and the 400 free relay (3:06.01), which finished second ... swam the second leg of the third-place 200 free relay (1:25.01). SEASON: Helped set five Wayne State records at the Eastern Michigan Invitational ... broke a 26-year old WSU record (Gary Bice, 1980, 21.31) in the 50 free with a time of 21.10 as the leader of the 200 free relay, which also set a school mark (1:23.66) ... led off the 400 free relay (3:04.67), which set a record that would later be broken at nationals, with a time of 45.93, besting the old standard of 46.66 set by David Lutz in 2005 ... was on the first of four quartets to break the 200 medley relay record during the season, including the combination that set WSU and Matthaei pool records Feb. 2 against Ashland (1:32.39).
High School: A 2002 graduate of Sao Vicente de Paulo ... swam for Clube de Regatas do Flamengo (2000-01, 2003-06) and was MVP of the Brazilian State Championships in 2000 and 2001 ... took first place in the 50-meter backstroke at the championships in 2005 and in the 50-meter butterfly in 2006.
