DETROIT - The Wayne State University men's swimming and diving team entered Friday night's meet ranked 11th nationally, two places behind the competition, ninth-ranked Grand Valley.

The Warriors won five of the 11 individual races and both relays to claim a 133-104 victory.

Freshman Guilherme Veiga (Vinton, Va./William Byrd) won both 500 and 100 free, while junior Bruno Blanco (Rio de Janiero, Brazil/Princesa Isabel) won both the 50 free and 100 fly. Sophomore A.J. Erard (Troy, Mich./Univ. of Detroit Jesuit) took first in the 200 IM.

Taking second place were: junior Nick Ingrao (Ypsilanti, Mich./Lincoln) in both the 500 and 1000 free, Veiga in the 200 free, senior Mathias Isaksson (Vasteras, Sweden/Alleskolan) in both the 200 IM and 100 breast, freshman Per Bergstrom (Fagersta, Sweden/Alleskolau) in the 100 free, newcomer Luiz Pacheco in the 100 back, and junior Dan Fleming (Portage, Mich./Northern) in the three-meter diving.

The victorious 200 medley relay team, which broke the Matthaei pool record by .03 seconds, consisted of Pacheco, Isaksson, Blanco and freshman Tim Giblin (Midland, Mich./Midland Dow), while the 200 free relay quartet was Bergstrom, Giblin, Pacheco and senior Nick Markou (Canton, Mich./Detroit Catholic Central).

Wayne State has a home meet on Saturday, Jan. 14 versus Calvin.
