DETROIT - The Wayne State University men's swimming team completd the regular-season portion of its 2005-06 schedule with a 125-99 win over visiting Gannon University Saturday at the Matthaei Aquatic Center on the WSU campus.
The Warriors started out strong winning the 400 medley relay in a time of 3:42.96. The quartet consisted of seniors Luiz Pacheco (Curitiba, Brazil/Colegio Expoente), Mathias Isaksson (Vasteras, Sweden/Alleskolan) and Nick Markou (Canton, Mich./Detroit Catholic Central), and junior Bruno Blanco (Rio de Janiero, Brazil/Princesa Isabel).
WSU took the top four places in the 1000 free - senior Nick Ingrao (Ypsilanti, Mich./Lincoln) was first (9:47.93), junior Jared Troyer (Portage, Mich./Central) was second (9:51.53), freshman Argent Palumbo (Clinton Twp., Mich./Fraser) was third (10:29.30) and sophomore Jeff Marshall (Berkley, Mich.) was fourth (10:42.89).
In the 200 free, Wayne State claimed the top three places - sophomore Matt Leix (Flint, Mich./Southwestern) was first (1:47.52), Blanco was second (1:48.72) and sophomore A.J. Erard (Troy, Mich./Univ. of Detroit Jesuit) was third (1:52.96).
Isaksson won the 200 IM (2:02.76), while Marshall was third (2:11.70).
Blanco was first in the 100 fly (53.11) with Markou winning the 100 free (50.22). Pacheco won the 100 back (54.31) with freshman Greg Scully (Livonia, Mich./Churchill) placing second (1:00.39).
The Warriors claimed the top three places in the 500 free with Ingrao winning his second event of the competition (4:46.55). Troyer was second (4:48.50) and Leix was third (4:52.79).
Junior diver Dan Fleming (Portage, Mich./Northern) was second in both events (196.74 in the three meter and 186.75 in the one meter).
Freshman Guilherme Veiga (Vinton, Va./William Byrd) was second in the 100 breast (1:03.90).
The Warriors will train for the GLIAC Championship which will be held Feb. 15-18 at Northern Michigan.
