INDIANAPOLIS - Through Wednesday's opening events at the 2008 GLIAC Championship, hosted by the University of Indianapolis, the Wayne State men's swimming and diving team is in fourth place, 23 points behind leader Grand Valley State.
The Lakers totaled 93 points Wednesday, followed by Lewis University (82) and the host Greyhounds (75). The Warriors (70) finished ahead of Gannon (52), Ashland (41), and Findlay (24).
Wayne State's 200 medley relay improved upon a previous NCAA "A" qualifier, as the quartet of Cauli Bedran (Rio de Janiero, Brazil), Christer Tour (Farsta, Sweden), Alex Davidson (Napoleon, Mich./Jackson), and Tim Giblin (Midland, Mich./Midland Dow) posted a second-place time of 1:32.54.
James Ekleberry (Rochester Hills, Mich./Avondale) also improved his "B" qualifier in the 1650 freestyle, as he finished third in 16:06.60.
Closing out the evening's events, Cayce Bolt (Sterling Hts., Mich./Warren Mott) won the three-meter diving competition (457.55).
The 2008 GLIAC Championship will continue Thursday with the preliminary round at 10:30 a.m. followed by the finals at 6:00 p.m. Fans can follow the action live at UIndy's Web site.
