MARQUETTE, Mich. - The WSU men's swimming and diving team will enter the final day of competition at the GLIAC Championships in first place, 82 points ahead of Indianapolis.
The standings through Friday show WSU with 543 points, followed by Indianapolis (461), Grand Valley State (427), Gannon (289), Ashland (273), Lewis (220), and Findlay (164).
A.J. Erard tied the NMU pool record with a first-place time of 4:02.30 in the 400 IM, while teammate Jared Troyer came in right behind him in 4:03.92. Both Warriors earned NCAA "A" cuts with their times.
Jeff Marshall finished eighth in the "A" final (4:23.45) of the event. "B" final swimmers Argent Palumbo (4:28.80) finished fourth, David Fontecchio seventh (4:37.31), and Greg Scully eighth (4:42.18) in their heat.
Setting a meet and pool record, Bruno Blanco won the 100 fly with a time of 50.07.
Three Warriors were in the top five of the 200 free "A" final. Sebastian Rzepa came in second with a time of 1:43.71, good for an NCAA "B" cut, while Matt Leix finished fourth (1:44.85) and Nick Markou fifth (1:45.32).
Mathias Isaksson (58.89) and Per Bergstrom (59.92) finished second and fourth, respectively, in the "A" final of the 100 breaststroke. Tim Giblin placed fourth in the "B" final with a time of 1:02.46.
In the 100 backstroke, Luiz Pacheco came in fourth (52.90) and Matt Leix finished fifth (53.45).
The 800 free relay team of Guilherme Veiga, Jared Troyer, Leix, and Rzepa finished second in 6:59.43.
The GLIAC Championships will conclude tomorrow beginning at 10:30 a.m.
