Men's Swimming Fifth At NCAAs After First Day

Indianapolis, Ind. - The Wayne State University men's swimming/diving team is fifth with 62 points after day one of the 2006 NCAA Division II Championships being held at the IUPUI Natatorium.

In the first finals event for men on Wednesday evening, the 1000 free, Wayne State had three student-athletes earn All-America accolades. Senior Nick Ingrao (Ypsilanti, Mich./Lincoln) was fifth in a time of 9:23.72, while freshman Guilherme Veiga (Vinton, Va.) also earned First Team All-America honors by placing eighth in a time of 9:28.98 (top 8 earn First Team All-America while 9-16 earn Honorable Mention All-America).

Also swimming in the 1000 free were junior Jared Troyer (Portage, Mich./Central) and senior Nick Markou (Canton, Mich./Detroit Catholic Central). Troyer was ninth (9:29.02) with Markou placing 21st (9:45.24).

The next event for the men was the 200 IM and sophomore A.J. Erard (Troy, Mich./U of Detroit Jesuit) finished 13th in a time of 1:55.21.

Wayne State's remaining event on Wednesday evening was the 200 medley relay. WSU's quartet of Luiz Pacheco (Curitiba, Brazil), Mathias Isaksson (Vasteras, Sweden), Bruno Blanco (Rio de Janiero, Brazil) and Tim Giblin (Midland, Mich./Midland Dow) placed seventh in a time of 1:32.90 which is a WSU record.

Team results for day one has Drury leading with 149 points and is followed by CSU-Bakersfield (86), Tampa (75), North Dakota (65.5) and Wayne State (62).

The NCAA Championships continue through Saturday evening.
