BUFFALO, N.Y. - The Wayne State men's swimming and diving team is in third place out of 26 teams competing at the NCAA Division II Championships at the Flickenger Center in Buffalo, N.Y.

The Warriors accumulated 94 points in the first day of competition, 58 points behind leader Drury University and 24 behind second-place University of North Dakota.

Guilherme Veiga (Vinton, Va./William Byrd) earned First Team All-America honors with a third-place finish (9:23.81) in the 1000 freestyle, as did Jared Troyer (Portage, Mich./Central) with his eighth-place time of 9:32.10. Matt Leix (Flint, Mich./Southwestern) garnered Honorable Mention accolades by finishing 16th (9:47.57).

A.J. Erard (Troy, Mich./Royal Oak Shrine) received an All-America Honorable Mention for his 14th-place finish in the 200 individual medley (1:54.95).

Divers Chris Totten (Garden City, Mich.) and Cayce Bolt (Royal Oak, Mich./Warren Mott) earned First Team honors with finishes of third (417.85) and sixth (389.15), respectively, in the three-meter competition.

The 200 medley relay team of Luiz Pacheco (Curitiba, Brazil), Christer Tour (Farsta, Sweden), Bruno Blanco (Rio de Janiero, Brazil), and Tiago Oliveira (Raul Soares, Brazil) came in second place (1:30.21), setting a new WSU record and coming in under the previous national record (1:30.27) bested by the first-place combination from North Dakota (1:29.86).
