Findlay, Ohio - The Wayne State University men's swimming and diving team began the dual meet portion of its 2005-06 schedule with a 122-91 victory at the University of Findlay Friday night in a GLIAC meet.
The Warriors started strong as the quartet of Matt Leix (Flint, Mich./Southwestern), Mathias Isaksson (Vasteras, Sweden), Bruno Blanco (Rio de Janiero, Brazil) and Per Bergstrom (Fagersta, Sweden) won the 200 medley relay in a time of 1:38.99.
Bergstrom and Isaksson went 1-2 in the 100 breast with times of 1:01.19 and 1:01.42, respectively.
WSU took 1-2-3 in the 1000 free as Nick Markou (Canton, Mich./Detroit Cath. Central) had a time of 10:01.46, and was followed by Nick Ingrao (Ypsilanti, Mich./Lincoln) in a time of 10:16.61 and A.J. Erard (Troy, Mich./Univ. of Detroit Jesuit) with a time of 10:31.88.
Markou also won the 100 free (49.97), while Ingrao was first in the 500 free (5:01.21).
Wayne State's top finisher in the 200 free was Sebastian Rzepa (Clinton Twp., Mich./Chippewa Valley), who placed second in a time of 1:53.35.
Freshman Tim Giblin (Midland, Mich./Midland Dow) won the 50 free (22.62) and took second in the 100 free (50.38).
Rookie Guilherme Veiga (Vinton, Va./William Byrd) took second in the 200 IM (2:02.07).
Dan Fleming (Portage, Mich./Northern) won the one-meter diving (223.40) and three-meter diving (196.40) competitions.
Blanco took top honors in the 100 fly (51.04), while Leix won the 100 back (55.48).
WSU's "A" team (Giblin, Blanco, Isaksson, Bergstrom) won the 200 free relay in a time of 1:29.59.
The Warriors have a dual meet on Saturday, Nov. 5 at Eastern Michigan.
