INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Wayne State men's swimming and diving team defeated the University of Indianapolis, 129-106, in a GLIAC dual meet on Saturday.
The Warriors won eight of the 13 events on the afternoon.
The 400 medley relay combination of Cauli Bedran (Rio de Janiero, Brazil/Sao Vicente de Paulo), Per Bergstrom (Fagersta, Sweden/Alleskolau), Alex Davidson (Napoleon, Mich./Jackson), and Tim Giblin (Midland, Mich./Midland Dow) finished in a first-place time of 3:34.18.
Wayne State swept the top three spots in the 1650 free. Jared Troyer (Portage, Mich./Central) won the event in a time of 16:47.45, followed by James Ekleberry (Rochester Hills, Mich./Avondale) in second (16:54.13) and Jeff Marshall (Berkley, Mich.) in third (17:24.36).
Guilherme Veiga (Vinton, Va./William Byrd) won the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:45.01, and Giblin (21.91) and Bedran (21.99) finished second and third, respectively, in the 50 free.
A.J. Erard (Troy, Mich./Royal Oak Shrine) finished in first place in the 200 IM (1:57.67), while Troyer took third (2:03.41).
Davidson placed second in the 100 fly (54.23) followed by Matt Leix (Flint, Mich./Southwestern) in third (55.99), and Giblin swam to a second-place finish in the 100 free (48.10) with Bergstrom taking third (48.31).
Bedran topped his previous NCAA "B" qualifying time (51.99 at Oakland) with a first-place time of 51.87 in the 100 backstroke, and Veiga made a "B" cut in the 500 free, winning in a time of 4:41.25.
Troyer's time of 4:48.26 in the 500 free was good for third place.
Christer Tour (Farsta, Sweden/Varmdo Gymnasium) also earned a "B" qualifying time with a win in the 100 breaststroke (58.14). Bergstrom finished third in the event (1:02.47).
In the diving competitions, Cayce Bolt (Royal Oak, Mich./Warren Mott) won the one-meter (231.70) and finished second on the three-meter board (170.90).
Wayne State will host the University of Findlay on Friday, Nov. 17, at 5:00 p.m in the Matthaei Aquatic Center.
