Men's Swimming Second After Day One Of EMU Invitational

YPSILANTI, Mich. - The Wayne State men's swimming team was in second place (178 points) after the first day of the Eastern Michigan Invitational on Friday, 226 points behind the leading Eagles (404).

The Warriors are currently ahead of Kalamazoo (136), Waterloo (124), Allegheny (107), Calvin (107), Findlay (45), Michigan (40), Oakland (34), and Penn State Behrend.

Guilherme Veiga finished third in the 1650 freestyle (15:42.85), eclipsing the NCAA Championship "A" qualifying standard by over 16 seconds (15:59.29). Nick Markou and Nick Ingrao also earned "A" qualifiers in the event, finishing fourth (15:54.05) and fifth (15:54.36), respectively.

Jared Troyer surpassed the "B" standard (16:28.07) with his sixth-place finish of 16:02.85.

Matt Leix took third in the 200 backstroke (1:55.86), and Mathias Isaksson was second in the 200 breaststroke (2:06.09).

Bruno Blanco finished second in the 200 butterfly (1:51.61), earning an "A" qualifier and breaking his own varsity record of 1:52.97, which he set last season.

The Warrior relay team of Per Bergstrom, Markou, Isaksson, and Sebastian Rzepa finished third in the 400 free relay (3:10.43).

The EMU Invitational will conclude Saturday, Dec. 3, with events starting at 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.
