Wayne State sophomore Guilherme Veiga (Vinton, Va./William Byrd) earned both the GLIAC Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Week Award and the CollegeSwimming.com National Collegiate Swimmer of the Week Award for his performance last weekend at Grand Valley State and Calvin.

Veiga won three events over the weekend in the dual meet competitions. At Grand Valley State on Friday, Veiga won the 200 freestyle (1:46.56) and the 500 freestyle (4:42.97). The following afternoon at Calvin, he swam the 1650 freestyle in a first-place time of 16:16.61. He also took second in the 400 individual medley (4:21.26).

This is Veiga's first award from CollegeSwimming.com and his third honor this season from the GLIAC.

Wayne State will compete at Eastern Michigan today (Jan. 19) at 3:00 p.m.
