ASHLAND, Ohio - The Wayne State men's swimming and diving team will look to expand upon what is already an impressive lead, as the Warriors qualified several swimmers for Friday's finals at the GLIAC Championship.

Jared Troyer (Portage, Mich./Central) won the 400 individual medley (4:04.86) and qualified for the "A" final tonight, as did defending conference champion A.J. Erard (Troy, Mich./Royal Oak Shrine), who finished fourth (4:15.57). David Fontecchio (Rochester Hills, Mich./Rochester Adams), who finished 12th (4:49.31), and Greg Scully (Livonia, Mich./Churchill), who came in 14th (4:52.79), will swim in the "B" final.

Bruno Blanco (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil), last year's GLIAC champion and record-setter in the 100 butterfly, made the "A" final with a third-place time of 51.51.

Three Warriors qualified for the "A" final of the 200 free, led by Sebastian Rzepa (Clinton Twp., Mich.) who came in second (1:43.75). Tiago Oliveira (Raul Soares, Brazil) finished fourth (1:43.96), and Justin Shields (Chesterfield, Mich./Anchor Bay) placed eighth (1:45.33). Alex Davidson (Napoleon, Mich./Jackson) will participate in the "B" final after finishing 11th (1:45.59) in the preliminaries.

Per Bergstrom (Fagersta, Sweden) and Christer Tour (Farsta, Sweden) finished third (59.13) and fifth (59.52), respectively, in the 100 breaststroke to make the "A" final.

In the 100 backstroke, Luiz Pacheco (Curitiba, Brazil) turned in a second-place time of 52.08, while Cauli Bedran (Rio de Janiero, Brazil) came in fourth (52.70). Scully's 16th place time of 1:00.09 put him in tonight's "B" final.

Friday's final events, which will also include the 800 freestyle relay and the men's one-meter diving, are scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m.
